Fulfilling our dreams in retirement
The Staeger and Truong embarked on the journey together starting back in 2002. The actual date stamp was on 1st April 2002, the first face to face meeting, an April fool joke which neither have expected to continue many April fool days together. Our journey together has taken us across many continent and countries with few suitcases that were always ready to lift and go any moment in time. The common interest has always been to see the world and the wonders that the world could offer. The first 10 years have allowed us to see, taste and experience the world of the East. Starting from Hong Kong, Beijing, Malaysia and finally in Indonesia. Then we were faced with the life question if we could continue with the nomads lifestyle or is it time to settle and plant our roots. The decision would be between Switzerland (Staeger homeland) vis Australia (Truong homeland) and no doubt the men always win, Switzerland it is to setup our base. We landed back in Switzerland on 26th June 2010.
After almost 10 years actively building our lives in Switzerland, facing many turns of uncertainties on job security, we came to realise that perhaps our life is better spent somewhere else and doing something that make sense. 2018, the year we set the motion going to look for that thing!
Influenced by the movement to reduce cost of living and to become independent, we started to research for Tinyhouses including potentially living off grid at remote locations.
Tiny house on wheels!
We recognised that we need to see and touch what the market offered. The largest Caravan Salon seems like the best idea to visit.
The show opened our minds to many big options. Requirements set in, how much space required, bathroom, kitchen, dinning room, private space where we can escape from each other. Then reality hit us right in the face and woke us up....practicality verse affordability!
We dug in our heals and went for a dive into the requirements.
Staeger has always being a man who are in deep thoughts, careful and never rush (even under pressure) into any decisions. This trait has served us well here. Before we rushed into any decision, it was decided that we should try out the different models to acertain that what we are looking for are for real! We have selected a few favoured models and short listed to two (also whatever is available on the rental market). Over two Autumn seasons, we tried out the models of Gooseneck and Boxer. Further to many hours of research (almost a year), invested by Staeger, our Babe (Mobi) - Bimobile EX366 - was decided. We contacted the manufacture (Bimobile) in early 2021 and in a very short time, in June the deal was concluded. Our estimated delivery time was Jan 2023.
Spacious and good spacing in allowing us to spread but, heavy to drive (move like an old man) and drink diesel like a fish!
Lighter to drive in compare to Gooseneck and space is OK. Door entrance not the most ideal, sitting area not to our liking, sleeping areas not suited to our taste.
The Winner - though we never tried the model out (as it was not available on the rental market), we knew what we were looking for. The tricky question was on the choice of the toilet - Chemical or compose...we took the risk and selected compose.
